The Daily Grind with Matt Clarke

A Place of Peace

Written by Matt Clarke | May 7, 2026

We recently moved. Not a big move to another city, but across town for a bit of a lifestyle shift and to a place with much lower taxes. We loved our old house and its location, which made the process quite emotional, but since we aren't fans of throwing money away, off we went.

The entire process was unsettling and because we felt unsettled, anxiety ran amok. So many things to do and so many different people involved. The usual stress of coordinating buyers, sellers, realtors, inspectors, banks and title companies of course. But also, service providers, repairmen, movers, cleaners, painters, installers, etc.

It was this second group who unexpectedly brought peace to the process. They showed up when they said they would, over communicated so there wasn't any confusion, did their jobs with excellence and were all super kind. While we felt like we were managing chaos, they brought calm. And when the dust settled, there was peace. Not because the process was peaceful, but the people were.

When people go through disruption in their lives, whether self-inflicted or unexpected there's conflict.

Think of one relationship where distance has quietly taken root. Send a text. Make a call. Take a step. You don’t have to resolve everything today — but you can refuse to let the enemy win another inch.
