Leave No Doubt

My friend Steve Hagen knows a little something about football. For 40 years, he has coached the game in the NFL, some of the top colleges in the country (including my beloved Notre Dame), and literally all over the world. He also knows a lot about leadership and how to get the most out of people.

He constantly tells his players to be a smart, fast, physical, and fundamental football player who does whatever it takes to win and leaves no doubt.

Smart - Know the playbook, study the opposition, understand your job, and how it relates to the team.

Fast - Be so well prepared that you move without having to think and can outpace the game.

Physical - Take care of yourself, be strong, and hit hard.

Fundamental - Know your assignment, be in the right position, know the situation, eliminate excuses, and practice with purpose.

Leave no doubt - Your job isn't over until there are points on the board and a win in the books.

These are lessons that apply not only to football, but to anything in life you want to succeed in.

Another reason I admire Coach Hagen so much is that he also knows a little something about Jesus and weaves Him into his lessons from coaching. He knows following Christ isn't some Candyland experience with rainbows and gumdrops. It's real, it's raw, it's reps, it's work, and it's worth it.

"After saying all these things, Jesus looked up to heaven and said, 'Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you. For you have given him authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him. And this is the way to have eternal life- to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth. I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began.'" (John 17:1-5)

What if your faith followed the same principles above?

Smart - You know what the Bible says and how to apply it to your life.

Fast - You walk in the spirit and allow Christ to guide you in real time.

Physical - You stand firm and immovable on matters of faith and character, exhibiting boldly the spirit of love and power God gave you.

Fundamental - You know your unique gifts and put them to work to advance His kingdom.

Leave no doubt - Jesus is the only scorekeeper that matters. There is no question that your name is in the books.

Whatever you are doing, do it smart, fast, physical, fundamental, and leave no doubt.

Like Jesus, courageously complete the work the Father gave you to do so that you may bring glory to His name. Leave no doubt.
