Rockefeller's Creed

John D. Rockefeller Jr. sat in front of a microphone in an Empire State Building studio and called the American public into action. He knew it was only a matter of time that our best young men and women would be in harm's way and need the country's support. Asking for donations to help organizations like the USO and National War Fund, he gave a speech revealing his beliefs that would echo into future generations.   

He stated: “I believe that every right implies a responsibility; every opportunity, an obligation; every possession, a duty.” 

As our responsibilities increase, our rights must decrease. The higher in an organization you rise, the more you must serve and take responsibility. Nothing will drain your leadership cup faster than blaming others and usurping responsibility.

We've all sat in countless meetings and experienced situations where nothing gets done because the time is spent discovering whose fault it is rather than whose responsibility it will be to own a solution. News flash: It's yours. Winners take responsibility, loser blame others.  

The Bible says we must have the attitude of Christ. Who, although was God, he gave up his rights and took responsibility for your screw ups, and mine. That's leadership. That's what's behind our core conviction to Serve Others Without Exception. There is no out. Leaders serve. They take responsibility. Period.
