Young, Dull, and Weak

Gideon was so afraid of his enemies that he was threshing wheat while hiding in a winepress. He was doing an outdoor task indoors so they wouldn't see him. God called him a mighty man of valor and chose him to lead his people into battle anyway.

Moses protested that he was slow of speech and not eloquent enough to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. God paired him with Aaron and said any more excuses?

Isaiah cried, "Woe is me, I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips". God washed his mouth out with coal and put him to work.

Jeremiah, only a teenager when called, whined about being too young. "Who is gonna listen to me?" he asked. Knock it off, God told him, for I know you better than you know yourself. Don't be afraid of the people. You were made for this, and I will be with you. Let's roll!

"Get up and prepare for action. Go out and tell them everything I tell you to say." (Jeremiah 1:17)

Fear, feelings of inadequacy, and doubt are real. They just aren't from God.

I was in a conversation recently with a young, monster of a man who had arms the size of Montana, a smile that could light up a room, and a past that cast darkness, shame, and regret over all of it. He was sharing with me how recently he was telling his 11-year-old son not to grow up like him. "What?" I said, "You are kind, hard working, a dedicated father, and a man who doesn't quit. That's exactly how you want your son to grow up".

I then pointed to the Bible on the table and reminded him that, outside of Jesus, just about every person written about in that book that did anything significant was a total screw-up or coward before God used them. Just like you and me.

Get up and prepare for action! Make the call. Ask for the meeting. Stand up to the bully. Make the decision. Give the presentation. Close the deal. Ask for her hand. Say you were wrong. Take the shot.

When in the hands of God, you aren't too young, weak, broken, or ill spoken. You are worthy, powerful, and exactly what's needed right now. He made you for this. Now say, "Here I am, Lord, use me". Get up. Prepare for action.
