Commit Daily

At one of our Churchill Summits, Success Strategist, Cindy Ertman, was teaching a lesson on intention and growth. She had everybody write down three things they would commit to start doing and three things they would commit to stop doing. It was a very powerful exercise if done with honest thinking. The problem, however, is most people lack the daily commitment to follow through.

Things get in the way. We get tired, distracted, or busy. Those commitments drift to desires. The desires become wishes. The wishes become something we may do next week or next year. That’s why mornings are so important.

Each morning is a new opportunity to set your mind on doing what YOU want to do. Not what yesterday says, but what YOU say today can be.

Get up and set a daily intention. For example, long-term goals are tough for me. My mind wanders in too many directions and I struggle to stay focused. But I can set a goal for today and see it through.

Most of that intention is established during my morning reading and exercise time. I use my journal to remind myself of longer-term goals, keeping them in front of me as a consistent reminder. Then I use my morning reading and exercise time to think, imagine, and set priorities for the day.

As Mike Hardwick says, “the RIGHT activities done consistently over time will yield the desired result.” You must desire a result, then focus on the right activities and do them daily.

What would life look like for you if you took time every morning to decide what your right activities are for that day and actually did them?
