It wasn't a fair fight, not even close. We should have known better. Even though it was two on one and the numbers were in our favor, it was dumb to think we could win. My wife, Susan, and I tried our hardest, but in the end...I'm sad to admit that the ice cream won. In our defense, this was no ordinary ice cream. It was a scoop of vanilla caramel made in-house at "answer", a neighborhood eatery near our home in Nashville.
Their ice cream is the best I've ever experienced, and second place...honestly isn't even close. It's a bit of a mind-melt when you take the first bite. It is relentless flavor, confusingly creamy, and shamefully rich. Physically, we had every ability to resist, but mentally, epic failure...
"So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace." (Romans 8:6)
It's not our aptitude or ability that determines our success but our mentality and our attitude.
Sure, physical ability is a good starting point, but that's just a tool to be deployed, like a wrench or a ladder. It's our attitude that takes that tool and uses it for something profitable. Our attitude comes from our thinking and beliefs. The day we take responsibility for our attitudes is the day we start producing better results.
I read the below, and I found it to be a great reminder of how to improve my thinking, thus my attitude and my future:
"When I read the Bible, it contradicted what I was taught and what I saw with my eyes in the impoverished world around me. I began to believe what the Scriptures said rather than what I heard from outside sources, and that is how I developed a leadership mentality."
What is your mentality going into the day? Are you choosing an attitude of leadership and victory or “I’ll try” and giving in or giving up?
Truth be told, I went into the fight with defeat already on my mind. My feet had the ability to walk away, but my mind knew it wanted the ice cream. It only took one bite, and the fight was over.
Feed your mind, improve your beliefs, train your thinking, choose your attitude, and produce profitable results.
Letting Ice cream control your mind leads to death. Letting the spirit control your mind leads to life and peace!
