How can I grow? What do I need to do to get more responsibility? What are the keys to success? I desire...
Those are derivatives of questions I have received a lot over the years and unfortunately, there isn't a simple answer as everyone's situation is unique. There is however a simple place to start: Discipline.
Whenever I am asked to help someone, I always begin with their morning routine. (I know, not everyone is a morning person...but stay with me). The road between desire and doing starts with discipline. Committing to a purposeful morning routine not only positions you to be physically, mentally, and emotionally ready to take on the day but also sets the stage for other disciplined structures in your life. That's where it starts.
If you feed your body, your mind, and your heart each morning, they will all work better together to produce a return during the day. If you don't well you shouldn't expect a great return. And doing so daily creates a habit of discipline, which begins to eliminate excuses, which generates more disciplined thinking, which then leads to other profitable habits.
"So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified." (1 Corinthians 9:26-27)
God has given us each unique physical, mental, and spiritual makeup. How we care for that should not be taken lightly. It takes resolve and repetition. Take a minute and think about how you can start each day in such a way that will produce the fuel to propel you to the results you desire. Then commit to doing that. Every day. Without excuses. Without exception. That's discipline and it will spill over into other areas of your life and business.
The road between desire and doing starts with discipline. Co-operate with God to discover the areas in which you need to develop more discipline and then ask for His help in doing so. Start each day feeding your body, your mind, and your heart with the fuel needed to produce your desired results. Remove the excuses and create more disciplined thinking. Your actions will follow and results will emerge.
