Matt Clarke's Morning Messages

Do You Even Know?

Written by Matt Clarke | August 6, 2025

He wasn't well, and he knew it. Coming to grips with the reality that if he wanted his life to improve, he had to find help and find it quickly. He had heard about this man Jesus who was teaching and healing all over the region, and figured it was his best shot.

"A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed. 'If you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean,' he said. Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him. 'I am willing,' he said. 'Be healed!' Instantly, the leprosy disappeared, and the man was healed." (Mark 1:40-42)

I believe that not only do most people want to do a great job, but they also think they are. It's one of the reasons that large group trainings or communications don't always work that well. Nobody thinks the message is for them. Behavior change only happens when individuals realize they need it. It's personal. Jesus didn't wave his hand over the crowd, healing all of them at once. He went person to person, connected intimately, and changed them forever.

When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.

Do you want to get well? Do you even know you're sick? I think we would all do well to dive into some serious self-reflection and see what we need to throw at the feet of Jesus. It's not always easily identifiable or on the surface like leprosy.

Think about your job for a minute. Have you ever considered that there is a better way than how you are doing it? Or that you may be making mistakes or operating in such a way that the next person in line is picking up your slack? Or that with an adjustment here or there, the entire process could be much smoother? You should ask. Then, pursue help, advice, and a little training. Don't let pride or ignorance impede the best that can be done.

And if you experience someone else's work and know how to help it improve, don't keep it to yourself. Talk to them, give them kind, helpful, and direct feedback, one-on-one. They may not know, and not telling them is just cruel.

When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. Do you want to get well? Do you even know you need to? Ask this man, Jesus. He is willing, you just have to surrender.
