Matt Clarke's Morning Messages

Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Bee

Satan must have gotten a good night’s sleep because he woke up swinging and raring to go! Like Mike Tyson in his prime, the second the bell rang for the day to start, he rushed across the ring and attacked, looking for a first-round knockout. And he nearly got it. He punched with lies, doubt, fear, and even a few sneaky jabs of envy, pride, and exhaustion.

I ducked, blocked, and counter-punched first with some writing. I wrote down every punch he threw, then I countered with something positive and good. For everything twisting my stomach, I wrote something that lifted my heart. I wrote things I was thankful for and that brought me joy.

I then fought back by reading and sharing the truth. I thought about others who may be struggling today and found a way to reach out to them, sharing an encouraging word. Knowing this is a bit of a body blow to him, I threw several of these to soften him up a bit.

I could feel the fight shifting a bit. As the round ended and I sat in my corner, I prepared for the next one by identifying the truth behind the areas he was attacking. Now I had him. The bell rang, and this time I came out swinging with answers to his questions, solutions to his problems, options to discuss with trusted colleagues, and faith that God loves me and it would all work out. I took action, and he went down...hard...and I found peace.

"The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you." (Romans 16:20)

Ever have these mornings? It may not be in the morning, but smack dab in the middle of the day. Possibly at night while you are trying to sleep. Whenever the attack comes, fight back and fight hard. Take action, it's the only thing you can do to avoid being dropped to the mat.

When all seems lost, when all seems hopeless, just do something. Move.

Fight with thankfulness, serving others, and truth.  Focus on what's good, look to help someone in need, and identify options so you don't feel stuck. Turn up what God has to say and tune out the world for a minute.

Jesus is in your corner, and he will crush Satan like a juicy bug under your feet if you just tap Him in. Like Muhammad Ali says, "You can't hit what you can't see". So, identify where the attack is coming from and hit it hard. Don't just stand in the middle of the ring taking punches, fight back and keep punching!
