Matt Clarke's Morning Messages

Get Out of the Car

Written by Matt Clarke | January 29, 2026

I saw it differently. In fact, in my head, I saw it so clearly that I became fairly rigid in my thinking. Everything that happened from that point on regarding the situation I saw through the filter of my preset mind. Every word, every action, every event was observed through what I had already determined was true. As the days and weeks passed, my opinion solidified like concrete hardening over time. Then one day...

There was a collision. Not a healthy collision at first (because I was driving), but a collision that knocked down the wall of my blindness as I realized that I hadn't seen the whole picture. I saw what I saw, and at times only what I wanted to see, and like a crash test dummy, I ran right into that wall without a helmet or a seat belt. And it hurt.

Thankfully, by the grace of God and man, the verse that God reconciles all things for good for those who love Him and are called to his purpose came true. My eyes were opened to a new reality, I learned a few lessons about patience and empathy, and some mental blocks I put up were smashed out of the way.

"Again, a message came to me from the Lord: 'Son of man, you live among rebels who have eyes but refuse to see. They have ears but refuse to hear. For they are a rebellious people." (Ezekiel 12:1-2)

In the book of Ezekiel, God gives us a warning. Things aren't always as you choose to see and hear them. If you get too set in your own thinking and refuse to see things as God sees them or remove the blinding "truth" from your mind, get ready for exile.

When I filter my life through my limited way of thinking, I get the best that I can produce. When I filter my life through the word of God, I get His best. Seems like an obvious choice.

Where do you find yourself on the other side of a wall you just can't seem to get over or through? What conflicts are you embroiled in where lines have been drawn, assumptions made, or moats dug? What situation are you having a hard time wrapping your head around, or people you are struggling to wrap your heart around?

Consider this. You might be wrong.

I was, and am often. Not entirely wrong, but not completely right. Ask God for discernment and to reveal to you things you may not be seeing. Pick up the Bible and filter your life through His word. Go to your favorite AI platform and ask it, "What's a Bible verse that deals with this situation?" Trust me, there are several.

I often have eyes that cannot see, ears that cannot hear, and feet that don’t want to move to the other side. Jesus made the blind see, the deaf hear, and the lame walk. It's His sweet spot. Don't be a crash test dummy, get out of the car you are driving and get into His. Take your passengers with you.
