Louie's Last Pitch

Written by Matt Clarke | February 18, 2026

He pitched a complete game, remarkably going a few extra innings. A trainer tried to pull him from the lineup and get him to retire a couple of seasons ago, but he wouldn’t have it. A little PT, a shift to his diet and exercise routine, and he was back on the mound better than ever.

For almost 16 full seasons, he stubbornly gave it all he had. He had a love of the game, and man, we loved him and watching him play it.

"You care for people and animals alike, O Lord. How precious is your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings. You feed them from the abundance of your own house, letting them drink from your river of delights." (Psalm 36:7-8)

Louie threw his last pitch last week. As he stepped off the mound and went into the dugout one final time, he did it with a calmness in his eyes, knowing he had nothing left. We stood there cheering for our boy, grateful for the love he so abundantly gave. We were happy that he would no longer be running against the wind, but super sad because the spot on the bench where he sat cheering on his team for 15 1/2 years will be empty.

You were a great dog, King Louie, a reflection of God's unfailing love and friendship, right up to your last pitch. Thank you.
