Make the Call

I don't even remember what game we were watching, but it was a good one. It was a David and Goliath kind of game where one team was highly favored to win, but the underdog was not only holding their own, but looked like they might walk away with a victory.

There was a moment towards the end of the game when the coach of the underdog made a gutsy call that most coaches wouldn't have dared to. Jim Nance, one of the commentators for the game, said, "If you want a signature win, you have to make a signature decision."

You don't get anywhere in life without taking a few measured risks.

"It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going." (Hebrews 11:8)

When God told Abraham to get out of dodge and head to an unknown land with unknown perils, he had a decision to make. Stay put and live in obscurity, or obey and roll the dice. He rolled the dice and founded an entire nation.

What significant accomplishment are you desiring that hinges on making a significant decision? Where does victory seem so close, but the risk to grasp it is so terrifying that you just aren't sure? Where is the fear of the unknown keeping your feet planted solidly in midair?

Sometimes, you just have to take the risk. Leave home and get uncomfortable, or go for it on fourth down. Not every call will be in front of 60,000 screaming fans or have the future of an entire nation hinging on it, but it will have a significant impact on you. Be strong and courageous, God says, He will be with you wherever you may go.

If you want a signature win, you have to make a signature decision. Make the call. Go for it!
