Matt Clarke's Morning Messages

Mat Carriers

Written by Matt Clarke | September 29, 2025

He had a problem he couldn’t solve alone. They didn’t actually know if he could be healed, but they had faith and loved his friend too much to not try, so they picked him up and carried him to Jesus. Discovering the wait time was too long and the pre-check line was closed, they did whatever it took to help their friend. They removed excuses, busted the roof, and just lowered him as Jesus’s feet. That's friendship.

Any time, anywhere, any place. That’s level four friendship. People you can count on no matter what. Friends that will step into the battle amidst the gunfire, shooting alongside you, offering you cover, or dragging you out of harm's way. Make no mistake about it, life is war. There is a constant battle between the forces of evil and the forces of good in this world, and the battle is won or lost based on who steps into the theater with you.

"Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a sleeping mat. They tried to take him inside to Jesus, but they couldn't reach him because of the crowd. So they went up to the roof and took off some tiles." (Luke 5:18-19)

Who are your mat carriers?

Who are your mat carriers? The people in your life who will carry you when you can’t walk by yourself. The ones who won't accept excuses, justifications, or anything other than the best for you. The friends who don't see the filth of shame, but the beauty of the heart. The ones who say any time, anywhere, any place. Whose mat are you carrying?

With doubt and evil looking on, Jesus looked them straight in the eye and healed this man's heart and his legs at the same time. He responded to words of hate with acts of love. That's how you win the battle.

Don't go it alone. Recruit some mat carriers in your life and let them know you are counting on them to carry you when you need it, even if you don't even realize you are paralyzed. Be the kind of friend that others trust to carry their mat. Want mat carriers? Be one first. Stand up, pick up your mat, and let's go!
