Can You Spare a Few Minutes?

If your life depended on it, could you find five minutes in your morning? How about 15? I know it sounds silly, but if your doctor said I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that unless something changes quickly, you have only got a few days left.

The good news, however, is that I have the cure and it will only take you 10 - 15 minutes every morning. Could you pull off 15 minutes? Could you find a way to set your alarm 15 minutes earlier? Hit snooze two times less? Do not look at social media or email until another task is done, which could save your life? My guess is that if it were that important, we all could.

Why is it that most people don't?

"How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can't even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!" (Psalm 139:17-18)

"When I wake up, you are still with me."

While that is true, most people ignore it and never actually discover how precious God sees them. And not having that truth fill their cups leaves them empty, sucking whatever secondhand nourishment they can get from the chaos of their daily grind, the news, or social media. In other words...bone dry.

Did you know that a few minutes of reading God's word and a few minutes of light exercise consistently each morning would change your life over time? You don't need to go to seminary and be a gym rat. It is literally just a few minutes.

Pick up the Bible and start reading Psalms, Proverbs, or the book of Romans. Not a lot, just a paragraph or two. A few minutes. If the Bible overwhelms you, there are thousands of daily devotionals that feed you biblical principles with a page per day. Just a few minutes.

Then take five minutes to move your body. Walk, do push-ups, crunches, or a few body weight squats. There are countless five-to-seven-minute workouts you can find online. Not Rocky Balboa workouts, training for a fight, but light, easy, effective, and just a few minutes.

Start small...but start. You will be amazed at the difference it makes when your mind, heart, and body are fed consistently each morning. Mornings matter. We all have an excuse and a reason we can't find the time. But what if your life depended on it? Could you find the time then? It does.

How precious are his thoughts about you. Even though the night is dark, lonely, and the devil's playground, hope springs anew every morning, but you have to grab it. Don't miss Him telling you how precious you are before the world tells you what it thinks. And your body can't run on empty. Put a little fuel in your tank before you hit the road. Can you spare a few minutes?
