The Star of the Show

If it were me, I'm pretty sure my reaction would have been pretty colorful. At least a paragraph or two of good ole' Yankee commentary in response to the news. My fiancé is randomly pregnant out of nowhere? You want me to believe what? Ummm...come again?

I've had some crazy dreams for sure. Some were so vivid I remember them to this day, and others have helped me process situations more clearly. That said, when Joseph was told Mary was pregnant and the baby was directly from God himself, his obedient response was a miracle in itself.

But that's Joseph. A strong, supportive, hard-working husband and father, full of faith and happy to take a supporting role and not be the center of attention. Armed with the knowledge that his son was the savior of the world and his wife a miracle mom, the woman chosen by God to birth and care for Jesus, he could have made quite a name for himself.  He could have been an influencer at the very least. His own line of tools? Merch with his logo on it? He could have been something. And he was something. Supportive, steady, strong, consistent, and humble.

"When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded and took Mary as his wife. But he did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus." (Matthew 1:24)

When I think of Joseph, I think of all of the people behind the scenes working every day to make it possible for teams to perform in public: network administrators, IT support, accountants, programmers, operations teams, support teams, janitors, security personnel, equipment managers, ground crew, administrative assistants, warehouse workers, and drivers. The list is endless. Without these people, business and teams wouldn't function, and families would crumble.

Imagine how different things would be if Joseph had a spaz attack and left, instead of standing by Mary's side supporting, caring for and protecting her and Jesus.

Be thankful today for all the people who support you in quiet (well...not always quiet) and consistent ways. No matter who you are and what you do, there are plenty of people to be thankful for. To me, Joseph is one of the true heroes in the Bible. He is steady, humble, and strong.

You don't need to be in the limelight to be the star of the show.
