I have always considered it the single most important day. Wednesday. Smack dab right in the middle of the week. The day that fully transitions you out of Monday, sets you up to finish another week strong, and brings the weekend into focus.
Well, then again...Monday may be the most important. Win Monday and win the week. Start strong and finish strong, get a leg up on the competition. Yeah, definitely Monday. Well....Thursdays...yup, the most important day is Thursday... set your clients and partners up for finding houses over the weekend, give them the confidence they need to write a contract, and it's a great date night as well. Okay, the most important day of the week is...
There are a lot of things I want to accomplish this year. I have some extremely important goals for this season of my life. There are things I want for my marriage, my family, our business, our team. There are problems to solve, parties to throw, and mountains to climb.
None of it is possible without today.
Whatever day it is. One day at a time. What can I do today? What's important now?
"Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won't last very long." (2 Corinthians 4:16-17)
Life has a way of piling on. Like a barge overloaded with shipping containers. We just keep stacking one on top of another until we are full, weighed down to the point of barely staying afloat. This issue, that person, this meeting, that appointment. Baseball games, school plays, useless meetings, other people's problems, my own problems, another contract, another email, unanswered texts, social media, someone else's monkey. If you don't clear the deck, you're gonna drown.
The Lord promises to renew our spirits every day. When I hear that, I hear Him say, "Go take care of today. I'll refill you tomorrow for what you need tomorrow. One day at a time…together. And, to win today, remove a lot of the garbage that keeps you from doing what's most important. Clear the deck a little and focus. You can't do everything at once, so do what you can and do it well. One step at a time, so long as you are taking the right steps."
Take a little time today (the most important day) to delete some things from your calendar. Create a little space. Define what a win looks like for today and make sure you have those activities lined up. Everything else will just have to wait. Clear the deck and defend yourself against other people's monkeys. Just toss them overboard.
