Turn It Upside Down

Years ago, a sales rep from a service provider we did not use stopped by the office unannounced to talk to us. He was from the area and had heard about Churchill Mortgage and apparently wanted to do business with us. Unfortunately, we only had a few minutes that day, so we politely said hello and sent him away. A few days later, he came back. We had a pleasant conversation and let him know that we just weren't in a position to be buying what he was selling.

A week later, there he was again. And again. And again. Turns out, he wasn't as interested in selling us a service as he was in his services. He wanted a job...and he got one. We figured anyone with that much initiative and follow-through could be useful.

You don't get what you don't ask for, and countless potential leaders remain followers because they are waiting for an invitation or permission to step into a need or opportunity.

"Where does he get this wisdom and the power to do miracles?" Then they scoffed, "He's just the carpenter's son..." (Matthew 13:54-55)

People with initiative don't wait for the future to come; they create it. They also don't let the crowds of doubt diminish their doing.

Don't wait for others to do what you know you should do, or have the urge to go do, but are nervous about it, or waiting for an invitation. Go, take the initiative today. You have what it takes, and if God’s in it, you will have what it takes at just the right time.

Make the call, ask for the meeting, ask for her hand, start the project, start the business, implement the change, hit the gym, hit the floor, hit your knees, say your sorry, say your ready, raise your hand, raise ‘em both, take the leap.

Whatever it is, act now.

Most people are just the children of a carpenter. Content to spend their days driving nails for someone else's house. That is okay and can offer a great life. But some…some are willing to take the initiative to shift from driving a few nails, to taking a few themselves and building an entirely new kingdom. A carpenter's son with initiative can turn the world upside down.
