Up Your Ask

It totally annoys my family every time I do it. There are no tables available at the restaurant. A store we want to go into says closed, but there are people inside. I want clam pasta, but it’s not on the menu. There’s a price on an item that’s higher than I want to pay or anything where all signs say "no", but I prefer a "yes". I just ask for the “yes”.

It’s hilarious to watch their reactions. They slide down in their seat a little, like that will make them invisible, they say, “No, it’s okay, don’t ask”, or roll their eyes like here we go again! I simply remind them that you don’t get what you don’t ask for.

This world is not spinning around looking for ways to fill your plate. If there’s something you desire, you actually have to ask for it.

  • If you want the meeting...ask
  • If you want the sale…ask
  • If you want the date…ask
  • If you want a lower or higher price…ask
  • If you want the job…ask
  • If you want forgiveness…ask
  • Help, an opportunity, a change in direction, support, reconciliation...ask

You don't get what you don't ask for, so up your ask.

"If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do." (James 1:5-8)

I have James 1:5 written on my wall: "If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you". It's a reminder to me that when I face difficulties of any kind, I not only need to go to the source of wisdom but also plant my feet solidly on what the Lord says is right, not popular opinion. I find myself asking a lot!

Wherever you are in life, family, or business, there always seem to be areas in which we need wisdom. A deeper understanding so we can make better decisions, which lead to better actions, that will produce better results. In other words, better results come from better asks.

Too often, we fail to receive because we fail to ask. You don't get what you don't ask for...so up your ask.
