I was in Providence, Rhode Island for a family wedding. It was so nice to be around old friends, see the ocean, eat fresh oysters, clams, lobstah, and do my best to translate that Boston accent I spent decades trying to shed. Walking through the hotel on the morning of our last day, I looked out the window and saw the below.
With Providence conveniently located between the two cities, when jumping on 95 you make a choice to go north or south, left or right, towards Boston or towards New York. That’s life. Our present state is a collection of those choices over time. Choices between right and wrong, good vs. better, kindness vs. anger, being right vs. understanding. We don't always choose the right way (just ask Susan about my driving this weekend...) and that's okay because a few wrong turns every now and then doesn't mean we won't make our destination, it just means it may take a bit longer and our tires may have a little extra wear on them when we get there.
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10
God's masterpiece. Think about that for a minute and let it sink in. Regardless of all the bad choices and wrong turns you've made, God still sees you as a masterpiece. You may have taken the wrong exit a time or two, but He's got good things planned for you and has for a long time.
Keep driving and keep making the best choice you can at the time. Not every choice is as clear as the Red Sox (good) vs. the Yankees (evil). When confused about which direction is best, consult the creator of the map, he'll guide you home.
