Matt Clarke's Morning Messages

Why Not Eleven?

Written by Matt Clarke | February 2, 2026

I made a decision some time ago to make a slight adjustment to my exercise routine. While I am sure physically it's helped, I know for certain it's had a significant mental impact. For decades, like most people, I generally engineered much of what I did around sets of ten reps. Then I got to thinking, "Why ten? Why not eleven? Why not one more?"

One more. Now every morning, by doing sets of eleven reps, I am pounding into my head the power of one more. One more rep. One more call, one more chance, one more person, one more thank you, one more try, one more mile, one more day.  One step at a time, but don't quit. You can always take one more.

"If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile, carry it two miles." (Matthew 5:41)

Imagine the impact on your life and your business if you maintained the swing thought of one more in every area. Why stop at what most people feel is enough? Most people quit doing anything at a place that is roughly about 50% of what they are capable of. Don't be like most people.

There isn't enough time or space for this message to lay out all of the areas to which this applies. But you know how it applies to you. Where do you feel like you need to focus on one more?

Imagine the impact on your business if you committed to doing one more of the key activity that drives results. Imagine the impact of your relationships if you said "I love you", "thank you", or "I'm sorry" one more time. Imagine what would happen to your physical health if whatever you're doing, you dial it up by one more. How would your family or friends benefit if you offered one more chance? What would your faith look like if you read one more passage? Where would your finances be if you saved one more dollar? How could you affect your neighborhood if you helped one more person? Think about how you can impact God's kingdom if you invited one more to join you on your journey.

Life is about moving forward one step at a time.

It can be tedious, and it can be tiring, but don't stop where everyone else does because you can always take one more.
