The Daily Grind with Matt Clarke

He is. You should.

It's become a bit of a game for us. An intentional choice to only bring into the house the food we need for the next couple of days. We laugh as we try to piece together a meal with whatever scraps we can find. Sometimes it backfires on us as we end up going out to eat more often than we should, but that's just us being lazy. It gets so bad sometimes that when friends come to the house, they question if we even live there. No chips, no snacks, no extras. Just a few essentials so we don't die of dehydration or starvation.

But what if it wasn't a choice. What if it wasn't a situation that we laugh about, but desperately cry. What if instead of trying to refill our water bottles with cold filtered water in the fridge, we were thankful just to have one plastic bottle to refill in the stream at the bottom of the hill, if there was water at all? What if our empty refrigerator didn't represent our minimalist attitude, but our hungry reality? For so many people across the world it is. What if you could help?

"I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me." (Matthew 25:40)

If Jesus was hungry, would you feed Him? Let that sink in for a minute. Whether you believe in Jesus or not, you can't argue his impact on the world. He's the most known person in the history of mankind. The source of in incalculable numbers of miracles, conflicts, churches, healing, love and aid for others. If Jesus, the most famous person in history was hungry, would you feed him?

The etymology of the word "compassion" derives from the Latin “compassion”, which itself derives from two parts:

•     com (together, with)

•     pati (to suffer)

So, the literal root meaning is “to suffer together with” — to feel what another person feels in their pain. Take a minute and grade yourself in that department. I know....me too.

Let's do something about it. Today. Not later, not tomorrow. Today. Think about a cause, person or organization that you can support. Something or someone worth suffering with or being radically generous to. Here are a couple that are worth considering:

Compassion International is an organization I believe does amazing work worldwide. Sponsor a child here: https://www.compassion.com/ . St Jude is another one. Become a partner in Hope: https://www.stjude.org/.

You may have your own passion to a group of people that you can support. Wherever your heart is compelled. Do something.

Whatever you do to the least of these, you do for Jesus. The One who didn't just fill your pantry with food, but your heart with love. The one who lived a life of compassion. Who suffered for and with each of us. Don't over think it, don't doubt. For everything you give will be returned to you multiplied. If Jesus was in front of you, in tattered rags, dirty and hungry, would you feed Him? He is. You should.
